Decathlon’s sporting roots

“There is nothing more important in life than planting a tree at least once in a lifetime”. Says Mr. Zdzisław Trawczyński, deputy district governor of Kutno, who started another event in the Time for Forest project with these motivating words.

The place where the tree planting campaign took place was the Łąkoszyn estate in Kutno, Łódź province. It is one of the least forested areas in Poland, which is why it was perfect for the Time for Forest event. Preparations started as early as November 23, when members of our foundation measured the area and marked places for planting. Proper ground preparation was also an important element.

The planting campaign began on November 24 at 10 a.m. The event was hosted by Justyna Jasinska, director of the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Environmental Protection, and Zdzislaw Trawczynski, deputy district governor of Kutno. Together with Decathlon employees, we were greeted with great commitment by members of the Workers’ Housing Cooperative Pioneer in Kutno. We were also assisted by the students of three School Complexes in Kutno: No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3.

The event began with a thorough instruction on planting trees, diversifying native varieties and maintaining safety measures and division of labor. Pioneer Cooperative board member Mr. Matusiak was “pleasantly surprised by the organization of the work, the quality of the trees and the preparation of the site by the Aeris Futuro Foundation.”
