Choose a period that is less painful for the planet! We are implementing the SuPer2 project – sustainable menstruation
The Aeris Futuro Foundation has joined organisations from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Ukraine with whom we are implementing the SuPer2 – Sustainable Menstruation project. This is the next edition of the project, which aims to popularise reusable hygiene products and fight the taboo surrounding the topic of menstruation.
Disposable menstrual products are tons of rubbish
Disposable hygiene products used during menstruation are a huge source of waste. Assuming that the average menstruating woman uses an average of 32 disposable menstrual products (sanitary pads and tampons) per period comes out to 416 products per year (assuming 13 cycles per year). Each menstruating person uses approximately 14 000 menstrual products in her lifetime.
In addition to their negative impact on the environment, disposable products can contain harmful chemicals that have an adverse effect on health. In addition, their high price is a barrier for many women.
Reusable products good for the planet
An alternative to disposable products are reusable menstrual hygiene products. These are more environmentally friendly and safer for health. The most popular reusable products include menstrual cups, reusable sanitary pads and menstrual panties.
International cooperation – Project SuPer2- sustainable menstruation
The SuPer project created an educational brochure and workshop scenario on reusable menstrual products. The brochure provides detailed information on their benefits, the different types available and how to use them.
Activities include free workshops, games and educational stalls.
The project is implemented with the support of the Visegrad Fund. The SuPer2 project is an excellent example of international NGO cooperation. By involving partners from different countries, the project has the potential to reach a wider audience and promote sustainable menstrual hygiene products more effectively.
Together, we aim to reduce waste and improve women’s health and comfort through education and promotion of reusable hygiene products.
