Today, November 29, we are planting trees in the park in the Kąty Wrocławskie commune. Soon residents walking through the Pietrzykowice park will be able to watch the growth of 35 new trees and shrubs on a regular basis.

Our partner in this event is Kyndryl. The event will be attended by 30 volunteers from GSDC’s global Kyndryl Service Center in Wroclaw.

Where do we plan to plant trees?

The planting took place in the park in Pietrzykowice It was opened to residents in April 2020 after extensive revitalization. The EU-funded project included alleys with benches and lighting, as well as a viewing point in the park space. However, windstorms and storms that swept through the Lower Silesia region in early 2022 led to the destruction of many trees in the park.

What kind of trees do we want to plant?

Thanks to the “Time for Forest” program, the Pietrzykowice Park will be enriched with new plane trees, sycamore maples and some quince trees. We obtained the tree seedlings from the nearest possible nursery, whose employees will also assist us in planting.

Platanus acerifolia, although commonly considered a hybrid, has been known in Poland for years. It tolerates lower temperatures well, making it able to survive our winters without problems. This species can reach impressive sizes and exceed even 30m. In Poland we already have two impressive specimens: One of them measures 35m and the other 37m. We hope that in a few hundred years, one of the plane trees we planted will also reach record size.
