What the willows in Łętownia were humming about, and so the weaving workshop ended
“I am very happy that we were able to be involved in this project. I am grateful to Ms. Joanna Mieszkowicz for the opportunity to show young people how to make hurdles from natural materials”. – Justyna Górka, head of practical training at the Blessed Piotr Dańkowski School Complex in Jordanów and supervisor of nine students from the landscape architecture class, said.
On Thursday morning around 8:30 a.m., young people arrived at the Regional Chamber in Lêtownia, followed immediately by a car carrying a large amount of green wicker. “Shall we begin?” Addressed those gathered, Joanna Mieszkowicz, president of our foundation.
“Of course”. – Replied the curious students.
An introduction to the world of wicker, its varieties and specifics was given by Adam Wrona of the ŻyWa Pracownia. “Wicker is perhaps the most vital as well as energetic tree”. He recounted, showing its different types. “All you have to do is put such a branch in the ground, and in the spring there will be fresh leaves”. He added. “Of course, if you put it in properly”. He laughed, showing how to identify the right twigs.
And everyone got to work. Some cleaned twigs of leaves, others marked out the area for the creation of wicker fences, others hammered wicker sticks around which the vittles were braided. “I really like this kind of work”. – Sabina recounted, weaving. “When I get home, I will make such a fence in the garden”.
After several hours of intensive work, the hurdles were finished.
“It’s a great integrating activity”. Veronica said. “We don’t know each other yet, we’ve only been together for three weeks, and with this kind of work we get closer to each other”.
The next day, wicker benches were prepared.
And so ended the project – “Revitalization of the area around the Regional Chamber in Łętownia”, implemented under the action – “Actions for biodiversity”, and subsidized by the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management. The partner of the project was ŻyWa Pracownia from Krakow.
