Fundacja Cemex – sadzenie drzew na terenie Domu Pomocy Społecznej w Warszawie

Time for Forest -Cemex-DPS-Warsaw

The volunteers who came had unheard-of enthusiasm and strength for the work, which was certainly not easy. Both the planting of trees and shrubs, driving the stakes and securing the planted plants were done with great effort and perfect care. May we always come across such a harmonious and hardworking team!

Why did we plant trees and shrubs as a CSR action?

Optimizing operations to gain the greatest possible benefits in many areas is a strategy we have been trying to follow since the beginning of our operations. It’s also a strategy we strive to improve, constantly expanding our knowledge and skills so that the action plans we create are comprehensive and combine help for the environment with the needs of the people.

Planted trees support health of nursing home residents

For ailing people, especially those of advanced age, the environment in which they reside plays a special role. The greenery in the garden of the Veteran’s Nursing Home will become, above all, a place where residents can relax. This is just one of the many benefits that this space will provide them.

Plants we often divide into those that provide food or building material and those that are merely decorative. Plants actually have a deeper meaning for us as well. Not only do they support our physical and mental health on many levels. Trees often provide an important cultural element, which can be especially important for the elderly. Therefore, planting native plant species is a constructive activity not only because it supports local biodiversity. Plants have often been a symbol of many important events, and for the elderly, additionally, they can be a fond memory of childhood and youth. For example, the once commonly growing rowan tree was a permanent feature of the landscape, and its corals provided material for play and decoration.

Planting trees in the garden of a social welfare home

We planned the activities on the grounds of the DPS “Kombatant” together with the volunteers of the Cemex Foundation, who bravely worked for several hours despite the not very optimistic weather. The action included not only planting trees, but also cleaning up the area, planting shrubs, flowers, as well as partial restoration of the garden’s infrastructure.

Together volunteers of the Cemex Foundation on the grounds of the DPS “Kombatant” in Warsaw:

  • We planted native tree species, including 10 large trees. These were: common maple, common rowan, columnar oak (4 pieces), small-leaved linden (4 pieces). We also donated irrigation bags and tree care tips.
  • Posadziliśmy 50 krzewów, były to m.in. porzeczka, berberys, kalina, śliwa tarnina. Owoce, które pojawią się na krzewach, będą pożywieniem nie tylko dla ludzi, ale głównie dla zwierząt.
  • We planted 100 beech and 100 hornbeam trees, which in the future will form a beautiful hedge, far superior in value to the vines commonly used for this purpose
  • We planted about 700 flower bulbs 700 flower bulbs (including sapphires, crocuses), which will delight with colors in spring.
  • We removed the invasive species, which was Canadian goldenrod, and conducted szkolenie na t training on the importance of biodiversity.
  • We conducted ornithological workshops, during which volunteers built nesting boxes for birds. Hanging in the garden area, the boxes will be an additional, comprehensive support for birds, which, thanks to our activities, will gain shelter and a feeding base in the DPS garden area.
  • We prepared materials for the restoration of the pergola in the garden, which could not be painted due to the weather.

We sincerely thank the Cemex Foundation for its renewed cooperation within the framework of the „Time for Forest”,program, its continued support for the environment and its activities for the benefit of social groups in need. We can’t wait for spring to see the results of our cooperation!
