What is it?

Green Events is a long-standing (since 2008) program of the Aeris Futuro Foundation to support organizers of all events in implementing environmentally friendly innovations. The Green Event Standard shows that it is possible to combine business, scientific, or non-self and governmental activities serving social development while making efficient use of environmental resources throughout the supply chain.

Why do it?

The organization and conduct of the event leaves a ‘footprint’ of impact on the environment – pollution and waste are created due to transportation, consumption, use of various equipment and premises, production of publications, gadgets. More broadly, there is a transformation of nature and landscape – new hotels, conference centers, road infrastructure are being built.

History of Green Events programs

The program was initiated by Joanna Mieszkowicz, who, inspired by Gisela Bosch (late) of The Sendzimir Foundation, began to look at the entire process of organizing tree planting actions (the TIME FOR FOREST program in such a way as to have the least negative impact on the environment. Individual aspects such as transportation, catering, choice of location, communication and promotion of the event, management of energy, waste, water were analyzed and recommendations for environmentally friendly solutions recorded as Green Standard.
