DECATHLON – “Decathlon’s sporting roots” project
On November 24, 2017, a tree planting action “Sportowe korzenie Decathlonu” (meaning: “Decathlon’s Sporting Roots”) took place at the Łąkoszyn estate in Kutno, Łódź Province.
It is one of the least forested areas in Poland, hence it was an ideal place to hold the “Time for the Forest” event.
Preparations got off to a good start a few weeks earlier, when a site visit and concept development took place. On November 23, the Foundation’s specialists measured the site and marked the locations for planting. Proper preparation of the ground was also an important element. The planting action began on November 24 at 10:00 am.
The event began with a thorough instruction on planting trees, diversifying native varieties and maintaining safety measures and division of labor. During the event, the Foundation was hosted by Justyna Jasińska, director of the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Environmental Protection, and Zdzisław Trawczyński, deputy mayor of Kutno. In addition to Decathlon employees, members of the Workers’ Housing Cooperative Pioneer in Kutno also participated in the event. Students of the three Kutno School Complexes No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 also assisted with their work.
Collectively, 289 large trees (mainly oaks, maples, apple trees, pear trees, wild cherry trees, plum trees) were planted.
