At the end of November 2022 we carried out tree planting in the park in the Kąty Wrocławskie commune. Now residents walking through the Pietrzykowice Park can already observe the growth of 35 new trees and shrubs on a regular basis.

This time the action partner was Kyndryl. The event was attended by 30 volunteers from GSDC’s global Kyndryl Service Center in Wroclaw.

Where did we plant the trees?

The planting took place in the park in Pietrzykowice. It was opened to residents in April 2020 after extensive revitalization. The EU-funded project included alleys with benches and lighting, as well as a viewing point in the park space. However, the windstorms and storms that swept through the Lower Silesia region in early 2022 led to the destruction of many trees in the park.

What kind of trees did we plant?

Thanks to the “Time for Forest” program, the Pietrzykowice Park has been enriched with new plane trees, sycamore maples and some quince trees. We obtained the tree seedlings from the nearest possible nursery, whose employees also assisted us in planting.

Platanus acerifolia, although commonly considered a hybrid, has been known in Poland for yearsIt tolerates lower temperatures well, making it able to survive our winter without any problems. This species can reach impressive sizes and exceed up to 30m. In Poland, we already have two impressive specimens: one of them measures 35 and the other 37 meters. We hope that in a few hundred years, one of the plane trees we planted will also reach record size.
