Procter&Gamble Poland – biodiverse garden around DPS “Chemik” in Warsaw

Volunteering at a nursing home

As part of a wide-ranging campaign carried out together with Procter & Gamble Poland, we planted a large number of plants around the “Chemik” Nursing Home in Warsaw, cleaned up the garden and created additional shelter for birds and insects. These activities will not only support local nature, but also improve the comfort of the center’s residents.

Biodiverse garden – benefits for visitors

Greenery around facilities such as nursing homes can bring many benefits to residents, both health-wise and emotionally. Green areas surrounding a residence encourage movement, walking and outdoor exercise, which promotes physical fitness, improves fitness, and benefits the cardiovascular system. Communing with nature, moreover, reduces stress levels, relieves symptoms of depression and improves overall well-being. Additionally, a biodiverse garden can stimulate the senses through its abundance of colors, smells and sounds, and contact with nature can be a form of therapy, especially for people with memory problems or dementia, helping them to recall memories and improve concentration.

Biodiversity in the garden also improves landscape aesthetics

Together with volunteers from Procter & Gamble Poland, we carried out a series of activities that will transform the appearance of the garden around the nursing home and provide support for local nature on many levels.

  • We planted 120 plamts, including such species as common buckthorn, different varieties of calla, clematis, catnip, and herbs such as thyme, thyme, lavender, sage, garlic, valerian.
  • We have enriched the facility’s surroundings with 1500 flower bulbs Thanks to the planted sapphires, hyacinths, crocuses, tulips, daffodils and onions, in spring the garden will turn into a colorful, fragrant carpet.
  • The garden has also been cleaned up, and alien invasive species , such as Canadian goldenrod, five-spotted vine and young red oak saplings have been removed from the site.
  • In addition, we prepared nesting boxes for birds and a hotel for insects , enriching the space with places friendly to a variety of species.

We would like to thank Procter & Gamble Poland for its commitment to a wide-ranging initiative. Thanks to the volunteers, it was possible to create a beautiful green space that will serve the residents of the center and support local nature.
